about
Before they formed the band Gestalt with the three guys, Suncat, Verneen and Kaichang were the trio Truesingers.
The story about the time when they got cancelled because of a political statement they made during a concert (and yes, this is supposed to remind us of something) is told in the book Three Windows. www.lulu.com/de/de/shop/jonathan-waite/three-windows/paperback/product-1dyqj6qk.html?page=1&pageSize=4
When the Angry Antz (Steffi Zurek & Silke Kovar) were Interfilk guests at Contata they sensed their chance to perform the Truesingers song Time Hangs Heavy as a trio and asked Mary Ellen Wessels to sing it with them, and fortunately she kindly accepted the invitation.
lyrics
Time Hangs Heavy
Flat land stretching far as I can see,
sun like a wheel burning down on me
and I'm standing here wondering what a woman alone can do.
Well I tried all my life and I done my best,
now there ain't no money in the old oak chest,
and the winter's coming on, I don't know if I can make it through.
Change been coming for a long time now,
something's gotta happen but I don't know how
cause the streams got dammed and the rivers ran dry,
and the plain folks starve while the fat cats are living high.
And time hangs heavy on my empty hands,
time hangs heavy on this broken land,
it's been way too long trying to find our way
to a brighter world and a better day.
Time hangs heavy on my empty hands,
time hangs heavy on this broken land,
it's been way too long trying to find our way
to a brighter world and a better day.
Crops haven't grown for a year or more,
tax man camping outside my door,
but if I took sick ain't nobody gonna want to know.
Kids got taken into foster care,
I think they're still alive but I don't know where.
People talk about family values but it's just for show.
The media tell you everything's okay,
if we just sit quiet all the bad will go away,
they use fear and greed to keep us all apart,
but when time hangs heavy then it's time for a brand new start.
(Seeds sprout, blossoms spread,
new life comes from what was dead,
pluck the fruit, harvest the grain,
cut down the old so the new can grow again.)
It's been a damn hard life since my man got took,
I been looking for the answers in the holy book,
but all it ever tells me is „Be thankful for what you got“.
So I went to the city just to state my case,
but every door I tried to open got slammed in my face,
and I was standing on the bridge when the woman next to me got shot.
So I came back home, no place else to go,
and the rage inside me still burns and grows
'cause the rot's at the heart, and the cure is the knife,
and we got to stand together if we want to build a better life.
And time hangs heavy on my empty hands,
time hangs heavy on this broken land,
it's been way too long trying to find our way
to a brighter world and a better day.
Time hangs heavy on my empty hands,
time hangs heavy on this broken land,
it's been way too long trying to find our way
to a brighter world and a better day.

Guitar: Silke Kovar
Recorded live at Contata, New Jersey, 2017
by Harold Stein who left a Harold shaped hole in the filk community about a year after this event.
Zanda Myrande/Zander Nyrond/Jonathan Waite/Andrew Lyng had many names. Zanda was the newest (only found in 2016) and
probably the most important one.
Zan was an amazing writer, songwriter, and person, and her brain was basically an ant hill where every ant carried a book around.
She died very suddenly in July 2019, aged 63.
This page tries to collect what friends did and do with her songs....more
