about
A song that evolved from a very sensible warning Marilisa gave during a party (yes, long before 2020!) into a grown set of lyrics in one of Zanda's creative flashes. :)
Mich contributed the tune.
The recording was taken at the UK filk con in Feb 2017, and although the lyrics are a bit difficult to understand (but they are here, and you can read them!) it was great fun, trust me.
lyrics
Don't Push Rob
Don't push Rob into the euphonium,
Don't toss him down a tuba for a lark.
He's never going to fit
Round every twiddly bit
And the bit where all the spit comes out
Is bound to leave a mark.
The valves will pinch him horribly,
And what will Janet say
When he's come out here especially
To play with you today?
So don't make him pedal the harmonium,
Or tangle him up in the trombonium,
And don't push Rob into the euphonium,
Or else he'll get brassed off and go away.
Don't push Rob into the euphonium,
It's not the kind of game that he enjoys.
He'll find it quite a squeeze
Especially round the knees
And if he should get stuck the thing
Will make a fearful noise.
Brass instruments are not designed
For people to pass through.
He might come out all long and thin
And then what would we do?
So don't make him juggle with plutonium
Or park in the airport's loading zonium,
And don't push Rob into the euphonium,
Remember he could do the same to you!
Don't push Rob into the euphonium,
It really isn't funny, that's the truth.
You'll only cause him pain
As well as nervous strain
And the man who plays the instrument will
Complain to General Booth.
The marching band have need of him
To make a joyful sound
But how's he going to manage it
While Rob goes round and round?
(wo-oh, wo-oh, wo-oh
And he comes out here--hopefully)
So don't make him eat your macaronium
Or lock him at night in the Smithsonium
And don't push Rob into the euphonium
It all will end in tears, yes I'll be bound,
The horns are much too wiggly,
The cornets are too small,
It's best if you don't push him
Into anything at all.
No, don't push Rob into the euphonium,
Just leave him with his feet upon the ground!

Zanda Myrande/Zander Nyrond/Jonathan Waite/Andrew Lyng had many names. Zanda was the newest (only found in 2016) and
probably the most important one.
Zan was an amazing writer, songwriter, and person, and her brain was basically an ant hill where every ant carried a book around.
She died very suddenly in July 2019, aged 63.
